Ave Maria was composed by Schubert in 1825, originally as the song "Ellens dritter Gesang" with lyrics by Sir Walter Scott. The lyrics "Ave Maria" were added later. One of the most serene and heavenly melodies in classical music.
The musical mechanism is mounted on a small wooden board, which gives the melody a louder sound.
