Frère Jacques is a traditional French children's song whose origin dates back to the 17th or 18th century. Known in the Netherlands as "Vader Jakob." It is one of the most famous canons in the world and is sung in dozens of languages. Gustav Mahler even used the melody in his First Symphony as a grim funeral march in a minor key.
