I Got Rhythm was composed by George Gershwin (lyrics: Ira Gershwin) for the musical Girl Crazy (1930). One of the most influential jazz songs ever: its chord progressions, known as "Rhythm changes," became the basis for dozens of jazz standards. Popularized by Judy Garland and Ethel Merman, among others.
