music box | Ode to Joy | Hymns | Europe
This musical mechanism by Fridolin plays the melody of ‘Ode to Joy’, the well-known European anthem from the ‘Hymnes’ collection. ‘Ode to Joy’ is the closing line of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and, since 1985, has been the official anthem of the European Union. The melody is based on the poem ‘An die Freude’ by Friedrich Schiller. The music box is mounted on a small wooden board, which gives the melody a louder and fuller sound.
