This Fridolin music mechanism plays the melody of Ode to Joy, the well-known European anthem from the Hymns collection. Ode to Joy is the final movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony and has been the official anthem of the European Union since 1985. The melody is based on Friedrich Schiller's poem 'An die Freude'. The music mechanism is mounted on a small wooden board, giving the melody a louder and fuller sound.
