‘Summertime’ was composed by George Gershwin in 1934 for the opera Porgy and Bess. With over 33,000 recorded versions, it is one of the most covered songs in the world. The dreamy, lulling melody is inspired by African-American spirituals and lullabies. The musical mechanism is mounted on a small wooden board, giving the melody a louder and fuller sound.
