‘Sur le Pont d’Avignon’ is a 15th-century French nursery rhyme, based on the famous Pont Saint-Bénézet in Avignon. The bridge was built in the 12th century but was never completed — only four arches remain. The song describes how people used to dance on the bridge. One of the world’s best-known French nursery rhymes! The musical mechanism is mounted on a small wooden board, giving the melody a louder and richer sound.
